This is an extra lesson for English speakers, specially for those who do not know the Spanish pronunciation, given that the course was written first in Spanish and therefore the lessons on pronunciation cover the main differences between Ngäbere and Spanish sounds.
Even though I would expect anyone learning Ngäbere to already have a good knowledge of Spanish, this might not be the case for a few people, so I'm reviewing here for the sake of completeness the sounds I don't cover in the course because they are the same that Spanish ones.
Ok, let's see:
- A: As in "cat"
- B: As in "boat"
- C: Not used in Ngäbere
- Ch: As in "check"
- D: As in "dog"
- E: As in "met"
- F: Not used in Ngäbere
- G: As in "give"
- H: Not used in Ngäbere
- I: As in "bit"
- J: It's a strong J, or a strong H, like the one in "Tijuana"
- K: Explained in lesson 4
- L: As in "like"
- M: As in "mouth"
- N: As in "no"
- Ñ: It's a sound that combines the N aound and the Y sound. For instance, "España" or "cabaña"
- O: As in "pot"
- P: Not used in Ngäbere
- Q: Not used in Ngäbere
- R: Explained in lesson 9
- S: As in "sit"
- T: Explained in lesson 5
- U: As in "put"
- V: Not used in Ngäbere
- W: Explained in lesson 6
- X: Not used in Ngäbere
- Y: It's a sound in between a J and a Y
- Z: Not used in Ngäbere
