100 superwords: Part 7
Let me introduce you to the next 10 superwords:
- kena: first
- käne: first than
- mrä: last, new
- ruäre: some
- ütiäte: important
- metre, erametre: true
- ngwarbe: useless, free
- nuäre: easy, nice
- ribi: hard
- tare: love, pain
- Kena/käne: It took me quite few time to understand the difference among these to, because if I asked the meaning of "kena" I was told "first", but I was getting the same answer when I asked the meaning of "käne". Nevertheless, in time I understood that "käne" means 'first than something else'. For instance, if two people argue about their place in the line: "Ti nämene nete mä käne / Ñaka, ti nämene nete kena" > "I was here first than you / No, I was here first"
- Ngwarbe: Besides meaning "free", given its meaning "useless" it also means "false". For instance, "Domingote tita ngwarbe" > "On Sunday I'm free" and also "Ngwian ye ngwarbe" > "That money is false". Just keep in mind it does NOT mean "free" as in "freedom", that would be a different word "kwäre".
- Tare: It is quite surprising to find out the same word means "love" and "pain"... or maybe not that surprising ;-) In the Ngäbere language "love" it's used in sort of a passive form, it is a bit complicated so I will explain in another lesson. For now let's see some examples, "Mä tare tikwe" > "You love mine" > "I love you" On the other hand, "Bule tare ti kisete" > "Belly pain my hand-at" > "I've got belly pain"
